WebSphere Portal represents a complex application server that can be installed on different operating systems (AIX, Linux, UNIX, and Windows) loading databases and services afferent to operating systems such as: DB2, Cloudscape, Oracle database, Microsoft Active Directory Service or IBM Tivoli.
It allows customization according to clients’ preferences:
- Portal and template design, user groups setup and access permissions configuration.
- Development of new personalized sections for expanding portal functionalities.
- Content management: the pages are organized in a dynamic hierarchical structure allowing easy modifying and updating. The text is introduced through a graphic editor with basic functionalities such as: fonts, insert tables, lists, images.
- Administering documents such as Word, Excel, PDF, Power Point etc., that can be uploaded and stored in databases and accessed by authorized users.
- WebSphere Portal also offers advanced search functions, based on a system relating information to each individual document on: title, author, publish date, validity period, editing, modifying, keywords etc.
- The users have the possibility of customizing their page layout, setting their own bookmarks and message alerts. Also, the portal has functionalities that facilitate internal communication between employees: search, chat, instant messages.
